We were born on Saturday 31st August 2013 at 10:03am.

The name was created through a competition: ‘Name your new local ‘ for which thousands of residents were asked to submit their ideas for the chance to win 6 months of VIP treatment at our new look venue. After receiving over 1200 suggestions, The Sandbar Scarborough Beach was formed and the winner announced… Ruth Lavender of South Perth.

We are locally owned and operated here at The Sandbar… with the owner and majority of our team living amongst the Scarborough community.

The Sandbar has a ‘no bookings’ policy. We aim to seat everyone, and believe customers who are here wanting a table will always get one. For all large bookings and function enquiries, please email: functions@sandbar.com.au

Locally owned and operated

The Sandbar is locally owned and operated by Ben Randall, and our team of approximately 55 employees. Prior to taking over the business in August 2013, Ben had spent the previous 12 years at The Paddington Alehouse, which his family has owned and operated since 1987. He has been fortunate enough to grow up in and experience first-hand this amazing industry.

At The Sandbar, community involvement is what we are all about. Our team always puts the needs of the community first – and, being locally owned and operated, we know what is needed to accomplish this. We believe that our customers are the ones who make and define a venue, and we certainly hope to be remembered as the best venue in Scarborough.

Our aim is to help put Scarborough Beach back on the world map…where it belongs! With the $100m redevelopment of the foreshore (which started back in 2016 and includes the recently opened Scarborough Beach Pool), about to be complete…there has never been a more exciting time for our amazing beach front.

Ben Randall

Owner / Venue Manager

Ben has owned and operated The Sandbar since its inception in August 2013. Before this, he operated his family owned and operated business, The Paddington Alehouse, between 2003 and 2013. Ben is a Scarborough local, and has lived in the community since 2011

Lauren Nolan

Part-owner/Functions Manager

Lauren comes from Kerry in the South West of Ireland. Coming to Australia as a backpacker in 2018 she is now using her degree in Business information Systems to help her in her work at the Sandbar by the fabulous Scarborough Beach. Starting as a waitress she has loved it ever since, never looking back!

Lauren became a part owner of The Sandbar in December 2022.

Adesh Sapkota

Bar Supervisor

Adesh comes from the North of Nepal. He has been in Australia since November 2013. Adesh has been part of the Sandbar since 2014.

He worked at several venues in Melbourne and Perth before joining The Sandbar crew. Here at the Sandbar, we have a multicultural family which is definitely one of the best thing about this place.

Sara Del Piano

Restaurant Manager

Sara comes from Milan, a very big city in the northern part of Italy. She has been living in Perth since September 2015 and straight away fell in love with Scarborough.

She has worked many years in the industry and she has been part of our team since early 2017 and loves it!

Hayley Cavendish

Bar Manager

Originally from South East London, Hayley has been in Perth since October 2016, after spending a summer season on the Greek island of Ios.

She has been at The Sandbar for nearly 2 years, starting off as a bartender and being promoted to bar supervisor.

Mia Ross

Bar Supervisor

Mia grew up in Melbourne and moved to Perth in March 2022. She has been working in hospitality for around six years at a range of different venues. She started at the Sandbar shortly after moving to Scarborough and loves working and living in the area.

Scarborough’s First Beach Bar & Restaurant

On 1 August 2013, our team took over Zanders Scarborough and Torch Bar, and began implementing changes straight away. The plan was to create a new brand, with a new food menu, beer list, wine list, and cocktail list. Most importantly, a new name – which was chosen by the local community, and our logo, which we hope will be with us for many years to come.

At The Sandbar Scarborough Beach our offerings are diverse yet simple – wood fired pizzas, craft tap beer, award winning wines, cocktails (selected by our staff), and of course, friendly service.
